Kefalonia Greece
I've been thinking about how to write about the holiday - don't want to write a great big detailed post which would no doubt bore you to tears, so I decided to be as brief and to the point as possible, or at least try.
So here goes:
We went to the Island of Kefalonia, stayed in Lassi a smallish resort with plenty of restaurants so that we didn't eat in the same place twice!
When we left London it was pouring with rain, and no surprise it was still pouring when we got back.
We had a very smooth and speedy journey, a 3 hour flight so by mid afternoon we were on the beach!
The airport was about the smallest I have ever seen, with only 1 male and 1 female toilet!
Our bags were just about the last off the carousel, a time of stress for me as my daughters bag once got lost and she had to spend the entire holiday with none of her own clothes.
We didn't have a very nice view from the room and it was extremely basic with rather hard uncomfy twin beds, but we didn't spend much time indoors.
Our first evening went out to pick one of the many restaurants, we watched the sun go down, it was the most amazingly beautiful sunset, and in fact this was every night we were there, stunning!
It's funny how some women get dressed up as if they are going to eat at the Ritz..
The price of food was much much higher than it was when we last visited Greece, it used to be cheap and cheerful but was a bit of a shock.
We spent our days either soaking up the sun by the pool or on the beach, dipping into the water to cool off. It was blazingly hot!
There were hundreds of fish swimming around in the crystal clear water, and we bought a snorkel set to allow us to see them even closer.
There were lot of cats wandering around, obviously strays, looking very bony and uncared for, rather sad. They come into the restaurants (which are mostly outdoors with covers)looking for scraps to eat, and it seems they will eat just about anything.
Also a few dogs roaming around, matted coats and very rough looking.
The whole place is alive with the constant sound of the cicadas, which is a bit annoying at first but soon blends in.
We went on a coach tour to several other parts of the island including Melissani and Drogarati caves - now these were truly amazing and I don't think any photo can do justice to such incredible sights.
I am mentally beautifully rested but physically I am still really tired. We did a lot of walking, it is very mountainous and hot and therefore exhausting.
But it was brilliant!
I have uploaded the photos to Flickr and there are LOADS..
But I do hope you'll have a flick through them, there are some stunning views!
