I don't know you personally but I am reading your post. When I blog, I make it sure that I don't post personal information such as my cellphone number, address, the name of my company - those basic info. There are a lot of people who take advantage of what you post online. We should all practice some netiquette.
There are a lot of ways to blog. For me blogging serves as an outlet of my emotional outbursts. I don't have to give details on my personal info but I can play with the words to use in showing my emotions.
Just continue blogging if it is your hobby. Hobbies are hard to beat. There's nothing wrong if you just remain responsible on the things that you post in your blog.

I also set up proper named twitter/facebook accounts and so on, which are terminally boring but as a way to assist people looking for 'the real' me, but effectively ending the trail.

I felt that way when my mom finally asked for my blog's url. I had to give it to her, but from that point onwards I had to sensor myself. I'm always scared my sister will figure it out on her own one day. Since I talk about her all the time, I'll be either in trouble or dead then.

It sucks because your blog ought to be the one place where you can say whatever you want without worry. Unfortunately, you do get put into search engines so there's always the possibility that someone you know will find you.

Maybe you could start up an extra blog, one under a different name, where you can let go. I thought about it once.

I've been on another site called Open Diary for about 7 years now and it's an amazing environment for writing about more personal things. You can choose who reads your blog and it's got layers of privacy options. Wordpress is great for a more public experience and I love blogging here, but it's too exposed for the rest of it. After writing some facts for myself on my blog i've reached a point that i realized...you can never write in public without feeling or being exposed. I usually avoid writing about my very personal thoughts. I haven't even written any details in my profile. I feel like another person when i'm writing.
