Tolerance

A few weeks ago I would not have believed these photos could ever exist.

When Freddie came to live with us in July Mabel was very upset, but look now, they just about tolerate each other.

I know it was only a couple of days ago I posted a photo of Freddie with a nasty wound from an altercation with Mabel but these pictures prove, I think, things are slowly improving!

By the way, is there anyway to get rid (easily) of the bright green eyes? I know it's like the "red eye" humans get!

An Afternoon Wander

Today I was bored, I wanted to get out of the house but no one was wanting to go out to play with me, so I went alone..

Cat-Astrophes

Not really a good day with the cats, ok, so not really catastrophic but a bit upsetting.

Freddie (4 month old kitten) keeps on annoying, chasing and jumping on Mabel (3 yr old cat) so quite expectedly she lashes out on him. Now he has a nasty bloody wound just behind his ear and a scratch on his nose. Fur literally was flying :(

Mabel has no problem with Freddie, as long as he is calm with her.. But that's rare, he's a little psycho puss with way too much energy!

Freddies Wound
Then at feeding time Mabel throws up, not once but in 3 different places. This is not too worrying as she is quite a sicky cat and there was some fur ball thing in it.

That on top of Freddie waking me almost every night between 3am and 5am.

Him begging with the most persistent incessant miowing to go out each time I let Mabel out. He's too young to go now unsupervised, maybe when he's 6 months.

So all this is really exhausting me, just waiting for the next little drama!

I love both of them to bits, but I long for some calm in this place!!

Ocular Migraine

Today I had an Ocular Migraine..

I had severe visual disturbance for about 30 minutes, which I find quite terrifying, then a rather mild headache and a feeling of not being *right*

I guess in some ways it's better than the usual agonising painful migraine that goes on for about 3 days, but it's still no fun.

Nothing in particular seemed to bring it on, although I had felt momentarily dizzy a few hours earlier.

I've had this type of migraine about half a dozen times before, luckily each time I've been safely at home. I dread to think what would happen if I was out or at work, although at work shouldn't really be a problem considering I work with Dr's!

I have had extensive eye tests a few months ago so I know there is nothing wrong there.. it's just one of those things..

"Ocular migraine. This is sometimes called retinal migraine, ophthalmic migraine or eye migraine. It causes temporary loss of all or part of the vision in one eye. This may be with or without a headache. Each attack usually occurs in the same eye. There are no abnormalities in the eye itself and vision returns to normal.Important note: see a doctor urgently if you get a sudden loss of vision (particularly if it occurs for the first time). There are various causes of this and these need to be ruled out before ocular migraine can be diagnosed."

Chipped & Chopped

This morning we got the cat carrier out.  Mabel looked at it with suspicion and quickly moved away, amazing how they remember.

But it wasn't for Mabel anyway, it was for Freddie.

We got him neutered and chipped..

He's home now right as rain, apart from the occasional lick to the wound he is completely fine and with no stitches (that surprised me) we don't have to go back to the vets.

Other Peoples Mess

Today was not a good day at work.

It started off OK, but took a turn for the worse for me when I received an email informing me that one of my colleagues (who is conveniently on leave for 2 weeks) had made some errors in something.

The bad bit was that these errors needed to be rectified by the end of the month - and guess who is the only person there to fix this mess? ME!

So, considering I am only at work 2 more days before the month end it hasn't been an easy task on top of my already heavy workload..

But now I'm home and relaxing, unwound a bit, and suddenly don't give a *bleep* about it...

Alcohol & Me = NO NO!!

The last four years or so I've not touched a drop of alcohol. No mysterious reason why, it just gives me such a wretched headache..

But last night my OH had a bottle of this:

Photobucket

It looked so pretty in the glass I thought, why not...

I had only a few mouthfuls, maybe about a third of the bottle and I didn't feel at all intoxicated - BUT I woke up with the most terrible headache and felt really rough most of the day.

Seems I had best go back to total alcohol abstinence :(

Lovely Washing Up Liquid

Who enjoys washing dishes? Not many people I'm sure but recently, for me, it hasn't been so bad..
The reason?
I found this new washing up liquid, it smells absolutely lovely, in fact I might have to use it in the shower as well! lol
I must just say, this is not an ad.. Just something I wanted to share :)

Wonderful Wednesday - Five

Should have called it Wasted Wednesday really as I've not done anything much all day.

Woke up feeling tired which was not surprising as Freddie kept mistaking my head for a scratching post during the night, over and over until I had to put him out of the room and firmly close the door and my ears to the meowing!

So, just pottered around achieving nothing, had a very much needed afternoon nap. I can rarely nap in the day but in recent weeks it's getting a little more frequent.

It's now a dull grey damp evening... But I made a lovely chicken curry to heat things up a bit!

Help! Don't Forget To Neuter!

Freddie has his appointment next week!

The Immortal Life Of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot

The Immortal Life of Henrietta LacksThe Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

"Her name was Henrietta Lacks, but scientists know her as HeLa. Born a poor black tobacco farmer, her cancer cells -- taken without her knowledge -- became a multimillion-dollar industry and one of the most important tools in medicine. Yet Henrietta's family did not learn of her 'immortality' until more than twenty years after her death, with devastating consequences . . . Balancing the beauty and drama of scientific discovery with dark questions about who owns the stuff our bodies are made of, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks is an extraordinary journey in search of the soul and story of a real woman, whose cells live on today in all four corners of the world." from Amazon

A truly fascinating book. We all owe something to this ladys cells.. every single one of us in one way or another.

Definitely worth a read, even though occasionally it gets a little tiresome it soon picks up again!

We Are Ginger!

Took a few shots of Freddie the other day, he is not an easy subject as he does not sit still for a second!

Freddie P1020519
P1020520 P1020518 P1020517
Him and Mabel are getting on a lot better now.

I don't think they will ever be snuggle buddies but there is a certain level of tolerance.

He wants to play with her all the time, which unsurprisingly gets her a bit annoyed at times.

Still, it's looking good.. They've come a long way in the 5 weeks they've been together!

On a side note, I was messing with my hair today - now I match Freddie!

Wonderful Wednesday - Four

After all my *saying* in the earlier post I did something amazing today, well that's how it's described on the webpage.

This amazing thing was giving blood.

Photobucket

I attended the West End donor centre which is a permanent centre rather than the ones that visit local community or shopping centres, I find it much easier to just pop in whenever the mood takes me.

Also it's just off Oxford Street, so of course I partook in a little retail therapy, not a lot though, a few bits and pieces from Primark.

I'm Just Saying!

Photobucket I am obviously amazing considering the way I put up with the monotony of my domestic life over the last 28 years.

I moved to this flat 28 years ago.

I've had children in it (well, in the hospital but you know what I mean) they've grown up here, moved out, moved back, moved out again, moved in again etc etc.

I've had hamsters, a husband, all gone now.

I have a new man (well, he's been around 8 years now, so not that new  lol) and 2 cats.

Things have changed many times for the people in my life.. but me?

IT'S STILL THE SAME!!!

In all those years the longest I've had away at any one time is 3 weeks.

I am still cleaning and clearing up after people, the same floors, the same everything, still sorting out household problems mostly by myself for various reasons.

Don't tell me to move house, I can't afford to.

Don't tell me to do something different, I don't seem to have the energy or the time, I work hard outside the home and it seems my day's off are spent mostly being a domestic drudge

I know this post is a pointless moan and I'm not doing anything to help myself..

But it's just something I wanted to say, in fact it's not moaning...

I'M JUST SAYING!!! OK!

Ridiculous Riots

Living in London I am particularly upset by these appalling riots.

This afternoon we were advised by police to close the surgery at 3pm along with the all the shops on the high street.

I walked home down this very high street and it was rather odd seeing it all shut up in the middle of the afternoon.

Lots of police but no trouble makers at that time although there had been a small outbreak the night before.

It's quite unbelievable that we are basically being held to ransom by a bunch of (mostly) spotty teens.

It's also quite horrific that there are so many, not only in London, willing to partake in such disgusting behaviour.

There is NO excuse, absolutely NO excuse..

KaleidaCam iPhone App

I am a sucker for camera apps for the iPhone.

Yesterday I got KaleidaCam.

Remember as a kid you might have been fascinated by one of those kaleidoscopes?

Well it's like that, just fun!

My right foot, with help of Kaleidacam. Looks like elephantiasis!

The last pic is my foot, scary isn't it.. I think I have elephantiasis!

Wonderful Wednesday - Three

Not a wonderful day exactly but never mind at least I wasn't at work.

Started off with water gushing down from the flat above, mostly on the outside of the building but causing some damage to my ceiling and wall indoors. Turned out the people who live upstairs left the kitchen tap running full blast with a bowl in the sink which prevented water going down the drain! Their flat apparently resembles a swimming pool, that'll be a bit of a shock when they come back from holidays!

Took Freddie to the vet for his 2nd round of vaccinations - he was a little angel. We also talked about getting him chipped & chopped in a few weeks - poor little thing, never to be a real man!

Sleeping off the visit to the vet.

It has been the hottest day at 30c (86f) and I've not been able to go out and enjoy it due to the water problems.

Tomorrow is supposed to be decidedly cooler and for once I am grateful for this!
