Sleeping Pills For Cats?

For the last few months and even sometimes before that my dear little Mabel cat wakes me up about 5am usually by climbing all over the bedroom furniture or staring at me repeatedly miaowing.

Sometimes it's earlier..

I can't get back to sleep after I've sorted her out, and even if I do manage to I wake up for work 90 minutes later feeling worse.

We've tried locking her upstairs but due to the open plan nature of my tiny flat she can be heard miaowing and scratching at the door.

I am only joking about the sleeping pills but it is seriously wearing me down..

Muddled With Mac

Having had the Mac for a week now I'm coming across things that completely confuse me!

Back on my Windows computer I always used Picasa for organising my photos - it was/is easy and picks up any images on the hard drive unless you tell it not to. You can hide folders it does find, for example those with music album art - don't need to be seeing those in there.

Now I was hoping to use iPhoto for my organisation - but so far I'm not really liking it.  I'm sure it's ok for new photos just uploaded from the camera, but to my mind where it fails is trying to organise photos already on the hard drive, for example ones I copied over from my old PC.

When I go to the Finder and look inside the iPhoto library I'm finding a bizarre selection of photos which I could swear were not even on my old PC let alone the new one. Is it copying them from Flickr?

It also seems that iPhoto "takes over" where your photos are stored and when I imported some old photos into it, it just made copies of them instead of seeing them in the folder they were in previously.

It's all very confusing for a person who likes to be tidy, ordered and know exactly where things are stored.

If I was to want to copy my photos to an external hard drive it seems it would take me ages to locate them.

Maybe I have the wrong end of the stick here?!

Probably no one will have a clue what I'm on about.

Hopefully it might fall into place - eventually?

Once I was used to the unusual style of this book, that is being narrated by a 5 year old boy,  I really enjoyed it!

Changes

PhotobucketI wish I could openly tell you all that happened for me at work today, but it wouldn't be advisable as I'm not 100% sure who reads this blog nowadays.

All I can say is it's looking good!

Some changes - two I am very very pleased about and the other, I'm semi pleased about, but time will tell..

I am not a big fan of change, it usually makes me anxious, but hopefully I'll be ok.

The biggest change is that for once I am not complaining about work!

Lets see how long that will last...

My Eye Tests

I had to go to the eye hospital today for a Glaucoma test. My optician had noticed the pressures in my eyes were a bit high so recommended I get more tests.

This was somewhat of an ordeal for me as I cannot bear anything getting anywhere near my eyeballs. I know most people feel the same to some degree but I am excessively difficult.

I had two types of drops instilled into my eyes and the two tests below and I must say I am truly thankful for the patience of the staff & Dr as I was in no way as still and well behaved as the man in the videos!

Then I had photographs taken of the back of each eye, which was easy, just a big dazzling flash which did not help my vision!

Getting home was another ordeal as my vision was extremely blurred (due to the drops) and my pupils so dilated that the rare appearance of the sun was rather painful. It was like being in a weird dream or being drunk without the drunk feeling!

I spent over 2 hours in the hospital but the result was good and I don't have to go back for the foreseeable future - YAYY!!!

My eyes before the test - normal pupils:

My eyes after the test - dilated pupils which persisted for about 4 hours!

I Am Now A Mac

I have taken the plunge and joined the "other side" - the Mac side.

It has taken a very long time to make this decision but my old laptop was becoming increasingly tired and laborious to use so I decided it was time to treat myself!

So far I am really enjoying using it, setting up with my iPhone has been a doddle, it's so easy to use and so intuitive.

I have the 13inch, so it's much neater on my lap than my old giant.

So, just gotta learn all the ins and outs of the various software now :)

Picnik Weather

It's rainy cold and horrid outside, not the best weather for a picnic.

BUT it is the perfect weather for Picnik the photo editing website.

I've used it on and off for a long time now and everytime I come back to it there are more fantastic new effects and features.

Un-Spendable Money

Turning out an old bag at the weekend I amazingly found 3 of these £20 notes!

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

How that happened I'm not too sure..However I can't spend them as this type of note was taken out of circulation about a year ago.

No problem me thinks - I'll go to the bank and change them for new ones.

But that didn't work, I tried 2 banks but neither wanted to help me, so I now have to trek all the way to The Bank Of England which is actually in an area of a London called Bank.

Bit of a nuisance but at least I live in London so it's not *that* far for me!

Every Last One by Anna Quindlen

Every Last OneEvery Last One by Anna Quindlen

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I found the first half of the book rather dull, I almost gave up but didn't and for that I'm pleased as the second half is, shall we say, a lot more interesting.

It was a good read albeit rather sad.

Hanging With Friends - A New iPhone Game

I have so little spare time with all the reading and games I already like to play but I just have to make some time now and then to play this new iPhone game.

It's called "Hanging With Friends".. A new game from the makers of the fantastically addictive Words With Friends!

It's a fancy type of hangman.

So, if you have an iPhone, how about a game?

I'm LadyBanana as usual..

Booby Time Again

Went for my yearly mammogram and ultrasound today, it was OK, same as always really, just a little uncomfortable.

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

Have to wait a whole month though for the result! Partly my fault I guess as I chose that day but there wasn't a lot of choice in earlier appointments.

It really doesn't seem like a year since last time, but hey, I'm sure someone is speeding up the clock as we are already half way through this year!

This Killed Maths For Me!

This is what killed maths for me..

The Slide Rule!

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

It's what we used before calculators were invented, and I just did not understand it. I tried and struggled and it put me off maths forever.

Kids these days don't realise how lucky they are!

Do you remember the slide rule? Did you "get" how to use one?

The New Perch & The Paper Bag

I bought this lovely new "perch" today for Mabel cat.

She has always enjoyed sitting & sleeping on similar things.

But does she like the new one?

Sadly it seems not.. She has completely ignored it so far and this afternoon she prefers it seems, to sit on an old paper bag!

Update: 24 hours later.. She is asleep on the new perch, shhhhhh please don't wake her up!

What Are We Going To Eat Now!?

THIS is such a worrying article - makes me wish I had a garden!

Time To Read..

In the last few weeks I've started reading again.

I've always loved reading but have to be in the right mood somehow, and of course need the right book.

Well, like buses none come along for ages and then suddenly you find several all at once. This of course means less time for everything else!

It's not easy to work all day, come home and do my housey bits, spend sometime on the blogs - yours and mine, read my fantastic book and be in bed by 10pm-ish to do it all again the next day!

How do you manage to fit in all the things you HAVE to do and more importantly all the things you LOVE to do each day!?
