Back soon, I hope!
This year the morale of the staff where I work is at rock bottom.
In past years we have had both a small staff Christmas party and a small bonus.
Last year we just got the bonus, no party.. which was disappointing but better than nothing.
This year we get NOTHING!
Our work load has increased massively, this is not a business in any way affected by the financial problems of late but that’s the excuse we have been given.
Do the bosses think we are stoopid? Obviously they do!
We think they are just mean and selfish…
So I would like to ask, do you get a Christmas party, a bonus or both?
You don’t have to comment here (but you can if you like) if you prefer you can answer via the poll on the right..
EDIT 21st December 2010
This is the final result of the poll:
Sadly it looks like most people get nothing..
I’m blogging this on behalf of my eldest daughter Rachel..
It’s taken me a good few days to decide whether to post this or not, but then I decided it’s my blog and I can post what I like!
OK… so my daughter has just completed a university degree in Youth And Community Work in Leicester.
She is currently doing some part time work alongside some volunteer work in a local Youth Centre.
She dearly hopes to get a good job in the field in which she is trained, BUT before securing this job she has a plan, and that is to travel to Namibia to help some young people - please read below, written by Rachel herself…
“Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, I will try and keep it short :)
As you guys and girls know as I would not shut up about it, during my studies I have developed an insatiable passion for youth work, it is this passion that motivates me to strive to empower young people from socially excluded backgrounds.
I have been speaking about and wanting to do a volunteering project abroad forever and now finally I am putting it into action at last!
I am planning to do six month volunteering project for the Theresias Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) Foundation Northern Namibia. Therefore I am trying to raise £3,800. The Theresias (OVC) Foundation is a registered organisation (reg. WO 267) working to help the poorest in the rural area (Rundu).
The aims of the Foundation are to uplift the living conditions of young people who are homeless, have been abused and/ or have been forced to leave education and to alleviate the consequences of a HIV/ AIDS pandemic. This will be facilitated through informal education, life skills training, raising awareness and campaigns with the aim of prevention and protection. Providing the support for young people to successfully enable them in making the transition into adulthood.
Your support and kindness will provide me with the opportunity to undertake such a voluntary placement. This will broaden my horizons and give me an entirely new perspective on life. The cultural differences that I will experience in Namibia will take me out of my comfort zone and offer great rewards thus creating an extremely meaningful experience. This is a unique opportunity which would usually be off limits to me. Participating in this placement will facilitate personal and professional growth as well as increase my awareness of global issues.
Not only will you be supporting me but your contribution will also have an impact on the young people that I will have the pleasure to meet. I would not normally ask but this work is so important to me. So I really hope that you can help me make this experience come true.
Thank You
Rachel”
It makes me feel quite uncomfortable to post anything that is asking for money, BUT if you or anyone you know would like to make a contribution, no matter how small, it would be gratefully appreciated!
Thank you ![]()

Received a message today informing me that my blog had been reviewed and added to a website in a particular category!
Great I thought, how exciting..
Then I read the category – Grandma Blogs! ( Click then scroll down to see mine)
Made a few laugh that did!
I recently bought some of these cute re-usable silicone cup cake cases (or fairy cake cases as we used to call them)
Wish I hadn’t bothered now as the cakes stick!
The cases themselves are not that flexible to pop the cakes out and we resorted to eating them with teaspoons!
Anyone have any experience with these type of cases, good or bad?
Just as I realise and have the opportunity to do something I really enjoy this happens!
Hurty foot!
It’s only in the past few months I’ve come to enjoy walking. Not the tedious walking back and forth from work but walking in the beautiful countryside.
It seems I now have Plantar Fasciitis
It’s very painful, particularly in the morning, it’s best to do some stretching exercises before getting out of bed.
It does ease as the day goes on but this weekend it’s been rather persistent, so it’s a feet up and take it easy weekend, which, considering the weather is not all bad!
This past week was tough for me as I didn’t feel too well.
Not unwell enough to take time off work, but not right enough to be at my best by a long way, a kind of non-specific yuckiness that overcomes me a little too frequently recently.
Not helped by my dear sweet kitty Mabel not realising the clocks have gone back therefore waking me up an hour earlier than she normally does (and even normally is a bit too early)
Thankfully today I felt a lot better as did the weather. Cold but dry, perfect for a good long walk.
We got up early and made for Dunstable Downs again.
This time we walked in a completely different direction and although it was rather muddy it was a wonderful walk!
I’m now exhausted but in a rather pleasant way!
