A Letter To All Patients

Dear Patients,

Please please, when you receive a letter from your GP surgery asking you to come in for a test don’t ignore it!

Amongst other things it might be for a simple urine or blood test.

It might be to get your current height and weight so to obtain your BMI.

It might be to have a spirometry test or come in to talk about stopping smoking or to have an asthma check.

It might be (if you are female between the ages of 25 and 64) for a cervical smear test.

You may well ask, “Why Should I?”

Well there are 2 very good reasons..

One being that if you attend, your GP gets points and points mean prizes in the form of hitting targets and receiving payments. Now this will keep them happy and stop them hounding all the staff to hound you, the patient! (Which would make our daily life at work a whole lot nicer!)

The second and most important reason is that these tests could save your life.

If a disease or condition is detected early then there is a much greater chance of recovery and/or survival!

So, Dear Patient, look forward to seeing you at your local GP surgery very soon,

Yours,

Overworked Member Of GP Surgery Staff

Words With Friends

Well I am once again in the grips of yet another iPhone app addiction.

This one is rather like Scrabble.

You can play multiple games, with friends or random opponents.

The game can be fast paced or as slow as you wish and the best part is – when one of your opponents has had their turn you get a push message, (like a text message) to inform you!

Oh and it’s FREE! There is however a paid for ad free version as well!

So if you have an iPhone and fancy a game check it out HERE

Or better still download it HERE

My ID on there is LadyBanana (now I bet that was a surprise!)

Fantastic Children In Need Medley

This fantastic video was part of the Children In Need appeal which was on TV last night.

Featuring well known children's TV characters its just a joy to watch.

If you’d like to own a copy (like I have) you can.. just go HERE or iTunes Link HERE

Seems I Am A Drug Addict

For several years I have been taking Citalopram for the most dreadful PMS – see a previous post from Feb 2007 for details.

Every now and then I think about coming off and then remember how I was and felt before being on them and quickly decide not to come off them!

Occasionally I do forget to take it.

Recently I forgot to take it for a couple of days but I felt fine. I was busy, happy and feeling great so I had this idea that this would be the time I was going to stop – for good!

Not a very bright idea at all… I am completely aware of the fact that no one should ever stop this medication abruptly!! But I began feeling that perhaps I could beat it! Ha!

Photobucket

By day 3 I began to feel oddly dizzy, and slightly “detached” from reality, nothing major but had to stop what I was doing a few times.

The following day I woke up from the most crazy dream with a dreadful headache, nausea and when I got up out of bed I was extremely dizzy, like I had just stepped off a crazy fairground ride.

Turning my head made me woozy, my legs felt like jelly and my heart was racing.

I knew what I had to do – go back on the pills.

So I am now back on them and feeling a lot better, not 100% yet but getting there.

I know I have to taper off the dose in order to stop them but after this horrible experience I’m not even going to attempt that for a while..

Bedtime Already…

I was intending to write a decent post this evening but things happened and time has run out – again.

Isn’t it annoying to have to live so much by the clock, knowing that if I don’t at least attempt to get my quota of sleep I will be no good for work tomorrow.

It would be so nice to be free of all these constraints and do whatever, whenever we wanted to!

Well lets hope tomorrow brings more time, motivation and inspiration!

Camera Critters - Muddy Feets

Even though we have been having torrential rain recently, resulting in it being very muddy underfoot, Mabel has insisted on going out!

Not surprisingly she comes back with very muddy feets!

But at least she gives them a good cleaning!

Cleaning Muddy Foots!

Back Together

When my son was away working in Dubai he met Holly.

As he planned his return to England they were devastated to find out that she was not given clearance to come with him.

So he came home alone and she had to return to her home in South Africa.

This was back in May and since then many plans have been made, papers submitted to relevant authorities and at last she was given an entry visa for residence.

This morning at 6:30 she arrived at Heathrow Airport.

I am so happy for them to be together again.

I’ve yet to meet Holly, today they are catching up and chilling together.

Another stepping stone in the life of a parent when your kids get proper live in partners!

Here Comes The Little Old Grey Haired Lady

Over the years 2 of my 3 children have suffered quite severely with eczema.

In fact even though they are now they are in their 20’s they still get it.

I’ve never had it, until now..

Recently I have been getting small but sore, intensely itchy patches in various places.

The worst place being on my scalp. It’s good that no one can see it but awful because I’m not going to be able to use any hair dye whilst it’s there…. wahhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!

I don’t need to visit my GP, we have a wide variety of ointments here and I think I probably know how to use them better than most having had over 20 years experience!

I just hope it clears up soon or..

Here comes the little old grey haired lady…

The Next Blog Is Now Much Improved

Next Blog

In the past when I've used the Next Blog button I've more often than not been taken to a blog not written in English, which is not much good for me.

Now Blogger have improved this button, it will now take you to a blog with similar content as the one you are already on and in a language that you understand!

Which is great news and a great way to find new blogs!

Genitals And Who’s The Father?

When I was very young I used to skim over my mothers “Womens” magazines.

They didn’t mean much to me, it was nice just to look at the pictures as the stories looked rather boring.

However 2 things I did read which made absolutely no sense at all to me and left me mystified to this day (well not quite to this day..lol) was the story entitled:

“ Pregnant, but I don’t know who the father is!”

That left me quite bemused as it was obvious to me that if you were going to have a baby then the father of the baby would be your husband!

The other, was not a story title but a line or so in an article which I don’t really remember too well apart from the phrase:

“It is important to wash your genitals daily”

GENITALS!! Wash daily!?  Now what the heck were genitals and how would I wash them daily? Did I have any genitals? Was I normal? No one had ever told me before to do this! It was rather worrying but I daren’t ask my Mother as she might be cross I had read her magazine.

So it was one of those big scary mysteries, funny now but not so much at the time!

Balloons For iPhone = Fun!

I'm still enjoying finding new apps for the iPhone and yesterday I found this one!

I can’t stop playing with it now.

If you decide to have a go it’s best to get the paid for version as it tracks where your own balloons go!

It’s only £1.79 for hours and hours of fun – just think, where else can you have so much fun so cheaply!  lol

And no, I am not being paid to do this post!

Remember Remember The 5th of November

I always remember the 5th of November, not for Guy Fawkes and the fireworks, in fact I’m not too keen on them anyway, but because it was my Mothers birthday and sadly the day that her Mum, my Granny, passed away.

If my Mum was still with us she would be 74, pity she only saw 52 of those years.

Anyway, the fireworks have begun (what a waste of money eh!) so I’m going to make sure my cat Mabel is OK, even though she is most definitely safe indoors she is still scared :(

What’s The Point?

Photobucket

Sometimes I wonder what’s the point of blogging. Sure I can share some of the funny stuff I find, a few photos and a little of my life.

Yes, a LITTLE of my life.

But so often I want to write a lot more about my life and how I am feeling at that particular time.

Recently I have been feeling rather low for reasons which I am all too familiar with and I’m pretty sure getting it out would do me good. A few kind comments would do me even better.

BUT and yes it’s a BIG BUT, I don’t feel I can pour out my heart here as I am aware that certain people, who I would prefer not to, have discovered my online persona. I have no idea if they actually read this but I can’t take the risk.

So, blogging really is skimming the surface, not what it could be if I were sure it was anonymous.
