Graduation Day In Brighton Dome

IMG_5448Yesterday was a very busy day as we all went down to Brighton for my youngest daughter Lizzie's graduation.

I was nervously worried something would go wrong (always the pessimist me) but all went very well.

She now has a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Applied Psychology - clever girl!

Autumn Is Just Round The Corner It Seems..

Autumn Is On The Way...

I took this photo today in Regents Park, see how the conkers are getting fat and ready and the leaves are already starting to turn a bit brown.

We’ve not even had any real summer yet and it’s looking a bit autumnal in places already!!

More Simon’s Cat

I love these Simon’s Cat animations:

My cat Mabel is a bit like this when she spots any bug!

But she is not so much of a lap cat like this one!

Do you have a lap cat? Or one like Mabel that will only ever sit on your lap for maybe a couple of minutes at a time when she is hungry?

Dr’s, Dentist, Hairdressers And Shopping

This is what I’ve been busy with the last couple of days along with going to work of course!

Had to visit my GP for a medication review as I’ve been on the Citalopram for a long time now for my PMS (let me say it helps enormously!) and it was agreed I can stay on it for now anyway.

Then I had to see the hygienist at the dentist. It was about 20 minutes of being poked, scraped and polished, my jaws were finding it difficult to stay open for so long plus the thing they leave in your mouth to suck up all the water, well that kept making me retch.

Then I went and got my hair cut, not short but just trimmed and tidied – I’m quite pleased with it, should really post a photo but taken any yet.

Then I went to Oxford Street to return a couple of items and to buy another couple of items..

Now, at last a little time on the computer, how the days fly but at least no work for the whole of next week!!!!  YAY!!!

Busy In Brighton

Yesterday I went with my youngest daughter to Brighton to make a start on emptying and cleaning up her student house.

It has been hers with 4 others for 2 years so they really had left their marks – all over the place! lol

We spent a solid 2 hours scrubbing and such like and made good progress.

Some things made me laugh though -

The way they let nature in:

The way they always had a balanced meal (or at least balanced the boxes well)

A little later we took a walk down to the beach where we almost got blown away!

Just watch the foamy sea.. I have no idea how this happens but it’s fascinating..

Stylish Or Silly?

My eldest daughter visited the V&A museum today for a fashion show by Giles Deacon.

When she got home we Googled him as I’d never heard of him before and we came across this rather interesting coat which she had actually seen strutting down the catwalk.

I asked her if had she laughed at this, as I think I would have burst out in fits of laughter at this!

Now come on, can you imagine yourself walking down the road in this on a cold winters day?  LOL

The Face Of A Wannabe Devil

This guy cheated the benefits system out of over £3000 to have work done on his face.

Not botox or fillers for wrinkles, not plastic surgery for an unsightly scar or burn damage.

He wanted to look like the devil.

He changed his name from Gavin Paslow to Diablo Delenfer “devil from the inferno” and got himself some fangs, a forked tongue and horns!

Photobucket

Paslow admitted seven counts of benefit fraud and was sentenced in April to 200 hours community service.

However, the security guard returned to Canterbury magistrates' court this week claiming he could not complete the unpaid work owing to ill-health.

The divorced father of two was banned from leaving his home in Seasalter, Kent, from 5pm to 5am and was fitted with an electronic tag.

Speaking after the case, he said: 'It was a stupid mistake and I'm really sorry. I'm paying it all back. I really regret it.

I'm pleased with my look so far but what I really want is a tail!

Story from Metro

Now why on earth would someone want to do this!!?

Not A Lot…

Nothing interesting to blog about this week. All I seem to have done is go to work and feel knackered.

Today I had a particularly bad day, and ended up in tears at work, not good…

It’s been a long time since I had any time off, apart from 2 days when Rob had his op, January was the last real time off so I’m desperately looking forward to the last week of July when I’m taking the whole week off.

That week is my youngest daughters graduation, so hopefully that will be a nice day. I bought a rather formal but nice dress last weekend especially for the occasion!

I really really need a big rest and change of routine!

This swine flu is stressing everyone out at work with endless calls from people with symptoms – it’s averaging about 20 a day so I will be glad to get away from it for a while.

Hmmm, be just my luck to catch this darned flu just as I try to escape the hoo haaa for a bit!

In The Waiting Room

Photobucket

Any regular visitors of my blog may notice I post a lot less than I used to.

It’s not a conscious decision, I just don’t seem to have the energy, ideas or motivation recently which really disappoints me.

Take the weekends, we have had pretty good weather for the past several weekends (as far as I remember) but have I done anything much? – no.

Have I done anything at all that I promised myself I'd do as soon as there was some good weather? – no.

Have I even been indulging in one of my most favourite pastimes, taking photos? – no.

I just seem to potter around indoors or online busily doing NOTHING and then before I know it I’m back to work for another week of looking forward to the next weekend which, no doubt I will “waste” just as much as the previous one… Grrrrrrrr!!

I don’t know why I’ve become like this. Is it a kind of depression? A simple case of my job draining every ounce of energy out of me during the week? Is it plain lazyitis?

Whatever it is I do not like it one bit and it makes me feel like I come home from work on the Friday only to sit in the waiting room before returning to work again on the Monday.

What Happened At The Vet

I took Mabel to the vets last night. He examined her and found her to be in pretty good health, he thinks she is quite small for 1 year old but as he said maybe she is genetically just a small cat.

He made lots of suggestions about diet and feeding, hairballs and stuff but had no real answers to the pukey problem.

He gave us something called Katolax which is supposed to help with hairballs (it’s also a laxative ughh) just in case that’s her problem.

I got some more flea prevention stuff and 3 sachets of so called “special” food.

He asked that we keep a diary of all her eliminations for a few days.

She was really good while we were there but I know she was very stressed as she made little wet paw prints on the examining table.

And stressed is the way I felt when I got to the receptionist and she said “that’s £82.10 please”!!!  I went all hot and nearly fainted!

Anyway this morning I squeezed out a little of the Katolax onto my finger, Mabel didn't want to lick it off so I wiped it on one of her front paws (as the vet suggested) and she licked it off even though she appeared to find it quite unpleasant.

I think this stuff really upset her tummy as since having it she has been sick twice and has been really really quiet, totally uninterested in any of her usual toys or games.

I hate seeing her like this, but in the last 30 mins or so she has perked up a little, so hopefully she will be back to herself tomorrow and eating again – lets just hope she manages to keep some down!

Mabel’s First Birthday Already!!

Today my little kitten turns into a full grown lady cat!

I can’t believe Mabel is already one year old. We’ve only had her 10 months but how time has flown.

From that little bundle of mischievous fur to a confident young lady.

I was going to mark the event with something yummy for her to eat but just recently she has been “regurgitating” her food rather too often that I’m actually taking her to the vet this evening to check her over. I’m starting to get nervous every feeding time wondering if she is going to keep it down or not.

Otherwise she appears to fine, active and bright and happy so I’m sure it’s nothing serious.

An Hour Of “Fame” On The Plinth

From 6th July – 14th October, every hour, 24 hours a day for 100 days with no break, a different person will step up to the Fourth plinthPlinth in Trafalgar Square and help make a living portrait of the UK.

This summer, sculptor Antony Gormley invites you (if in UK) to help create an astonishing living monument. He is asking the people of the UK to occupy the empty Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square in London, a space normally reserved for statues of Kings and Generals. They will become an image of themselves, and a representation of the whole of humanity.

If you're selected, you can use your time on the plinth as you like. One & Other is open to anyone and everyone from any corner of the UK. As long as you're 16 or over and are living or staying in the UK, you can apply to be part of this unforgettable artistic experiment.

Text from one & other

I think this is a very odd but fascinating thing to do. Not sure I’d have the nerve to do it, and if I did I’d probably freeze with terror once I was up there! But it looks like you can still apply for your hour on the one & other website

If you’d like to see the current plinther take a look at the live webcam – you never know who it might be or what they might be doing!

App Addiction

Since having my iPhone I’ve been very pre-occupied with all the little apps available for it.

(No wonder my battery doesn’t last all that long, hehe)

Like the TV ads say “there’s an app for that” and it’s just about true. There are games of course but so many other things such as a dictionary, unit converter, a translator, instant messaging, radio apps and photo editing apps to name just a few.

If you use iTunes just take a look through them even if you don’t have an iPhone you’ll be amazed.

A lot of these apps are totally free and the ones that I have actually paid for are no more than a couple of pounds maximum so they don’t break the bank.

And the best bit is they are great fun!

Photobucket

So, if you have the iPhone what are your favourite apps?

Lovely Lips

Photobucket

I’ve always loved to wear a bit of lipgloss, nothing bright or flashy just a light tinted colour, but so many of them irritate my lips so I’ve usually gone back to the old faithful lipsalve.

A couple of weeks ago I decided to splash out a bit and bought a Clinique lipgloss. They are certainly not the cheapest but they are well known for being allergy tested and fragrance free so I thought it worth a try.

I must say I am not disappointed – it feels nice, no irritation at all, it looks nice, it lasts for ages and it has sun protection factor of 15 which is great for these sunny days!

(This is not an advertisement, just something I like)
