Seems I Am A Drug Addict

For several years I have been taking Citalopram for the most dreadful PMS – see a previous post from Feb 2007 for details.

Every now and then I think about coming off and then remember how I was and felt before being on them and quickly decide not to come off them!

Occasionally I do forget to take it.

Recently I forgot to take it for a couple of days but I felt fine. I was busy, happy and feeling great so I had this idea that this would be the time I was going to stop – for good!

Not a very bright idea at all… I am completely aware of the fact that no one should ever stop this medication abruptly!! But I began feeling that perhaps I could beat it! Ha!

By day 3 I began to feel oddly dizzy, and slightly “detached” from reality, nothing major but had to stop what I was doing a few times.

The following day I woke up from the most crazy dream with a dreadful headache, nausea and when I got up out of bed I was extremely dizzy, like I had just stepped off a crazy fairground ride.

Turning my head made me woozy, my legs felt like jelly and my heart was racing.

I knew what I had to do – go back on the pills.

So I am now back on them and feeling a lot better, not 100% yet but getting there.

I know I have to taper off the dose in order to stop them but after this horrible experience I’m not even going to attempt that for a while..

Lady B,

Back pain & RLS etc looks like an innsufficiency of minerals plus possible circulatory probs etc ?

If I were you I would visit a Homeopath Doctor.

Alternatively there is some stuff called Leg Calm available from most Health Shops and it works.

Yikes! Sounds like something to wean off of under a doctor's care!

Lady Banana, I hope you are feeling 100% very soon. I remember PMS, and it can be very hard to deal with. Hugs to you, dear lady.

sounds scary. Yeah I'd talk to your doc about weaning yourself off of them. I have the same issue with my Ambien. If I try to suddenly stop it I definitely won't sleep. It's hard for me because I have good nights and bad nights. (mostly bad) I have a hard time falling to sleep.

Oh gad! I do hope you are better now; I am lucky - I have had some discomforts, but never have suffered like that. Bring on menopause; I've had enough of this already!

I was lucky in that I never had PMS.

Yikes! That doesn't sound good, Lady B - yep, gotta be careful with meds both starting and ending!

Hope you feel better now!
