Grrrrr Shopping...

PhotobucketThis morning I went shopping in Oxford Street with my eldest daughter. In fact it was more of a taking back session rather than actual shopping.

I was shocked to see just how busy the shops and streets were. I know the sales are on but they have been on for several days now so surely all the best bargains are gone!

We spent some time in Top Shop.. ughhhh I was going mad in there.

Thousands of teenage girls all desperately looking for that special garment and to me it all looked horribly old fashioned. It seems the latest look is yet again, a look from yesteryear - late 70's early 80's...

Been there, done that and it's gross - to me anyway!

I think it's scary how these girls (including my daughter) are so worried and stressed about looking "just right." When I was growing up I wasn't aware of there being any particular fashion trends and we were happy just to get any new clothes, let alone them being fashionable!

Really makes me glad I am not as young as I was.. and makes me realise how much I'm starting to hate shopping!

  1. Oh how true... I am glad I am not a teen anymore. If I want to wear something just because it is comfortable, dammit, I DO!

I don't worry about what other people think.

  2. I hate shopping with my teenager because it has to look just right it takes her forever to find anything.

  3. I haven't ventured far from home because of the Boxing Day sales. Madness!

When I was a teen, we didn't care what we looked like! As long as we had jeans and an Adidas jacket, we were happy :)

  4. "I'm starting to hate shopping!"
lol! Maybe this was a temporary shopping set back for you!? I hate crowds, & never was aware of the fashion either. But I love the 60's early 70's look! Bell bottoms are still cool in my eyes. I think that they are a lot better then those huge, low waist, slacks that some of the boys wear now. What keeps them up?

Well, look at it this way. If they are still shopping like crazy, then maybe your economy is not so bad! :o)

  5. Big "Me TOO!"

I hate shopping now. As for 80s clothing coming back, my thought is that if I'm old enough to have worn something the first time around, then I'm too old to wear it the second time around ;-)

  9. My own suspicions that the Credit Crunch is over-hyped have been confirmed for a long time. I was in Oxford Street Sunday night and the place was thriving.

  12. The pressure on kids to look "just right" upsets me too. My daughter won't wear anything used, even if it looks new...
I remember being excited to even get used clothes, as long as they were nice..it was like a Christmas present...

your patient to brave the mall after Christmas....

    Happy Neew Year
