A Real Cat And Mouse Game

This morning our neighbours cat was overly interested in one of my big potted plants. She wasn't going to be distracted by anything, not even a tasty snack.

I thought I had better investigate what was so interesting, so I moved the pot and as I did a teeny little mouse scuttled out followed by a very excited kitty.

She chased the frightened little rodent, caught it but didn't do it any harm, she just teased and tapped it about a bit.

I ran in for my camera and took a few shots of this rather comical scene - although sad for the terrified mouse!

After taking the snaps I had to get on with my breakfast and housework etc

I popped outside a few times and there the cat was, still was either playing with or guarding the mouse.

This went on for almost FOUR hours before I saw the little creature find a crack in the wall to hide and disappear into.

I wonder should I have rescued the mouse, or done something to stop this going on for so long - I don't know...

Anyhow, here are a few of the photos, (be warned the mouse has a sore tail)

I would have saved it from my cat Mitzi, because she would have killed and eaten it. I am surprised that it got away unaided - good for the mousie ;O)

The circle of life. The photos are great. Did you see what I left for you on my blog this week?

Though it's nature I still find it disturbing.

Just what my cats would have done, sort of ineffectual torture. Yeah, I probably would have rescued the mouse after a while. But - no harm done I guess, right?
(I'm sure I would have taken pictures before I saved it though!)

Well I have mixed feelings here on the one hand it is what happens in nature. On the other hand I feel bad for the poor little mouse after all he is so darn cute.

That mouse is lucky it wasn't my Leo after it - he would have murdered it in an instant. He killed a robin and a bluetit this week. Mean cat, he is.

Aw, poor little mousie. He's a cutie!

But then the cat is just being a cat, and the cat is a cutie too.

My cat would have batted that little mouse around too, and then probably would have eaten it :-(

Good catch in noticing the mouse! Nice pics.

Your favorite visitor has lovely coloring. I bet that mouse won't be visiting any time soon.

Ha, well fed house cats are like that. When I was 13 we got 2 kittens and they were very fussy about their food. I fed them scrambled eggs with their rice & curry otherwise they wouldn't eat it. But they wouldn't eat mice, just play with them , little bites here and there and then tap them to see if the little creature was still alive. Soon they would get bored and go away.

That's what cats do...they take hours to kill their prey...they're such mean hunters, lol. They have the world fooled...being so cute and sleeping on our sofas...but the killer lies within.

Be glad he didn't kill it and bring it to you as a trophy. I've had plenty of dead mice dropped at my feet, ... oh thank you! lol

mice are cute but also vermin (is that the spelling!!?)

so you wouldnt want it in your house wud you, so thats good the cat was there to distract it!

Ok, that mouse is cute. However, the only time I see mice is in pet stores, so I probably have a different cultural approach to rodents. Cats are actually formally employed as mousers in the UK, aren't they?

Thanks for stopping by and the comments!

One of the best things about having cats... is not having mice (except the odd dead one dropped off as a gift)!
