Can't Keep Up..
Many of you, like me are members of BlogCatalog or MyBlogLog and probably quite a few others as well.
While it can be fun to be on these sites, you can meet new people, new bloggers, find new blogs it can also be a pain in the bum.
Just about everyday I get heaps of emails from these sites from people adding me as a contact, joining my community or leaving me a message. So many that I cannot keep up with it all!
I'm sure that makes me sound mean but what's the point of adding every Tom, Dick and Harry, are there any prizes for having the most contacts?
I don't think so!

17 COMMENTS, SO FAR, ADD YOURS :):
I think the same, and it is great when you first join these sites. But once the junk emails come in, it gets annoying.
I have a hard time keeping up with it, too. At first I tried to visit everyone who added me or joined my neighborhood and added them back if I was interested. Now sometimes I do and sometimes I don't. Most of the ones I added, I forget to ever look at again anyway.
I haven't seen any prizes yet. :P
I take a look when someone adds me and sometimes I see a blog friend on their list and realize how they got to me in the first place. If I like their blog I'll add them as a friend too. That way any of you can peruse through my page over there and see other's who you might enjoy reading. and many by doing so I get a few new loyal readers now and then. But for those I don't follow up on all the time, there's nothing i can do about that. I think we all gravitate to what we like and need the most and just do our best.
BTW you did get an award...ACHEM. from me dear!
I agree. I'm afraid I end up just clicking the 'add as friend' automatically, without even visiting their site. I know this is wrong really, but I don't have time to visit all these blogs and I just don't like to be rude I suppose. I may well stop doing this though.
I joined MyBlogLog years ago, when it was mostly a stats site, because it showed referrals and what folks clicked, up to 10 each for each blog on a free account. Suddenly, they became yet another social blogging network, something I don't need. I have plenty of blogs to read, more than I have time for.
So, I delete any message left with a link or asking me to visit their blogs. I go in every so often and mark all new contact requests: Keep as follower. I don't add anyone to my neighborhood. I never look at my neighborhood. I haven't even checked stats for the last couple of months. After 4 years, the stats don't interest me much. I'll check Feedburner periodically to see how many subscribers I have and that's it. I'd delete my MyBlogLog account, but I know some folks read my blogs that way.
I have the same problem too, so much so I gave up trying to keep up with all some time ago now, now I just let it be, I dont even check to see whos added me etc any more.
Occasionally when I have nothing better to do (not often lol) I have a nosey thru some of them, but other than that I dont bother with it.
Oooh, I know how you feel. Well somewhat - since I've only been blogging for 3 months, I don't get many requests from those whom I haven't already "friended".
I'm so far behind that I'm actually thinking of taking a mini vacation from blogging so I could catch up!
But on the upside, all the extra requests means that your blog is just that awesome ;P
Oh I am bad about that. Sometimes I look at those emails - sometimes I don't. It's mostly all about getting new people to come to your blog but I guess I'm happy with the visitors I have!
I do respond sometimes but I find I just don't have the time for all of it!
I can never keep up with it all.
im having a hard time keeping up too! but i tried to attend to ever msgs. If it's mgs to all members, usually i ignore it.
hi diana! i've got a tag for you! come & get it!! :)
I look at them, and "friend" them only if I think it's a blog I may want to visit again. All the make money blogs, I just ignore. I was considering unfriended some, but it's too much effort. I just never visit.
Hello Lady Banana!
The same here with me. I have many on mine. Many add me and I never see or hear from them again. I think sometimes it's just a numbers game to some. I just let them add me and move on.
Hope your having a great day! :-)
I must have the junk mail function turned off as I never hear from them. yay!
I used to check them once a day when I first started blogging, now it's lucky if I check them once a month.
Nope, it's not mean at all. BlogCatalog is the biggest offender here. I've often thought about deleting my account, because, unlike MySpace, I have no control over who adds me to their friends. I've had everyone from spammers to pornographers add me to their friends over at BlogCatalog, and there's not a wretched thing I can do to remove myself from their friends list. Ugh.
Yeah, I am definitely going to look for a box to de-select notifications if possible...
I haven't as of yet joined a blogroll thingy, but I have manually added contacts on various social networks. I will add the same person on all the networks that we have in common. I only add people who I love to read, and feel we have something in common. Since I don't have a following yet myself, these nice women who I've met online are the only ones who have added me, I suppose. And, I give the honor of being the number 1 blog queen that I have stalked/met online to Lady Banana! Maybe some add people for the same reason I do? To simply follow them online and keep up with them b/c they enjoy their writing, pics, etc.?
