A Gallon Of Petrol = $8.53
I was reading my friend Beth Allens blog yesterday and she was talking about the high cost of petrol over there in the US.
That got me thinking about what we are paying over here and how we compare.
I don't have a car so it doesn't affect me personally apart from the obvious costs passed on invisibly to us by other services, such as public transport and food prices, which must be affected as they are delivered to the stores etc etc...
Anyway, I set about working out what we pay here, and have quoted the comment I left on Beth's blog...
Remember, we buy our petrol in litres:
1 US gallon = 3.78541178 litre
1 litre of regular unleaded = £1.13
I did the sum of 1.13 x 3.78 = £4.27 per US gallon
Which converts to:
UK£ 4.27 = 8.532741 U.S. dollars
So we pay the equivalent of - $8.53 US dollars per US gallon.
Hope this makes sense and please feel free to correct my awful maths. All done with the help of Google :)
So, my US friends, we are having a tough time over here!

I'm going to post the link to this article on my blog, Lady Banana. I thought you were talking US dollars yesterday when you commented on my blog. Thanks for confirming.
Almost $9.00 per gallon?? That's crazy!! I thought we had it bad. Not having a car is the way to go these days it seems, but our public transportation system here isn't very great. I'm guessing someday that might improve especially as our population continues to grow. But for now, I have to settle with paying over 4 dollars a gallon. I remember when the price crept up to 2 dollars, and I thought that was highway robbery. Guess I was wrong..:)
OMG! So I guess I s houldn't complain about my $3.69 per gallon gas I bought today? Damn. I thought I had a good complaint. :(
Wow, that's ridiculous! I have heard that England has a better transportation system then the U.S. Where I live, it's difficult to get around without a car.
The cost of living is much higher in the UK than in the US. I don't know if the salaries are higher in the UK too, but either way, petrol is too expensive and we've got to find other ways.
Numerically you may be right but yeah you have to consider the economic situation in both countries to determine a proper price.
Perhaps someday the world will have only one form of currency.
I will never complain again. I do have to say though you have more reliable transportation in your area.
Some of us have just been trying to be really quiet so we won't be noticed - because we don't want to finally have to pay what the rest of the world is paying.
Catching up with us now. WHO TOLD??
Our gas is $1.30 a litre! Outrageous!
In Australia I'm paying $1.67 AD, I dont know how our dollar translates to pounds anymore..but its gone through the roof...I drive 30min to work and back and I'm really starting to notice it in my wallet...
