Wear Some Eggs And Bacon

I recently came across a link for Egg and Bacon plasters on cyberchocolate

Thinking I would never find them here in London I was very surprised when my partner found these in a little shop in Covent Garden. As he is always up for a laugh he bought them for me...

Now have to wait for a cut to use one... hmmmmm

This unbelievable photo is of the shoreline north of Sydney Australia.. I almost feel it's someones April Fools joke!!

Cat Caught In The Collar

This morning whilst I was blow drying my hair and my partner (R) was in the shower I heard a blood curdling miaow .

I ran out of the bedroom at the same time R burst out of the bathroom to find our neighbours lovely little cat laying on the floor all kind of knotted up and crying out, licking her front right leg and gasping open mouthed for air.

In seconds we realised what had happened, she had somehow got her front leg caught in her collar and the more she pulled and licked at her leg the tighter it seemed to be pulling on her throat. My partner bent down and in a flash released her from this collar. She was terrified and ran under the bed where she seemed to want to stay just cleaning herself for about 10 minutes. She did then tentatively come out so we encouraged her to come right out calming her, stroking and gently talking to her.

It took a good 30 minutes at least for her to leave our side, she was still breathing very fast. Eventually she went out and sat in a shady part of the balcony. When we were sure she was settled we continued to get ready and go shopping.

My neighbour wasn't around at the time, so we felt very relieved we had been there for this poor little kitty. I have since spoken to our neighbour and she insists the cat must wear the collar for the sake of the birds. I'm not sure how I feel about collars after this, she had obviously got caught on something, tried to get loose only to just about tie herself up. It's amazing how to managed to get into our house to call for help!!

The 20 Mile Cycle Ride

Today I (with my partner) cycled 20 miles!!!

It was a wonderful day, we started off by getting the train, with our bicycles, to Richmond, which was about a 25 minute journey.

Then we cycled along the riverside to Teddington Lock, Kingston Upon Thames and Hampton Court.

We then continued through Bushey park, amazed to see how many deer were there. Then back all along the Thames path to Richmond station then home.

Written here is doesn't sound like much, but wow my legs are certainly feeling it this evening!!

Needless to say I took plenty of photos along the way, and you are most welcome to take a look at them all by clicking on the beautiful deer below!

Morphing Kittens - Say What!

Just had to pinch this from Cat On My Head. Thanks Jaya! It's just so kittyly crazy!

Chocolate Covered Marzipan!

The last 3 weeks or so I have been very good trying to watch what I eat, so in conjunction with all my cycling I hope I'm doing myself and my waistline some good. I have lost a few pounds but I'm not going to blog figures here, suffice to say I am moving (mostly)in the right direction.

As a choccy lover I have been amazingly good and had absolutely none in 3 whole weeks..

Until today - I saw this wonderful chocolate covered marzipan in a small local store and just couldn't resist.

I am rationing myself to no more than 2 squares a day and believe me it really is the best I have had. It's difficult not to just get up and get the rest from the fridge and just munch the entire bar!

DIANA, My Scary Voicemail

It's almost 10 years since the tragic death of Princess Diana. It's almost 10 years since I got my first mobile phone.

What on earth can these two events have in common I bet you are wondering.. Well nothing really apart from this..

Having a mobile phone was quite and unusual thing in those days...certainly not everyone had them and I felt a little self conscious showing it in public. Not just because it was a brick, which it was but because I didn't want people to think I was a show off.

Well not long after having it I was very excited to receive a voicemail... but terrified when I heard it...

In a deep creepy scratchy voice it said.. "DIANA - Died In A Nasty Accident - D.I.A.N.A."

Hearing this dreadful message (me sharing the late Princess' name) I was very very afraid, I had to listen to it a few times as I found it hard to believe that someone could be so unkind, was it a joke, a threat? It made me shiver. I had only given this number to a very small handful of people, and none of them I could imagine doing anything so nasty.

After 3 days the message was automatically deleted by T Mobile (then One2One) and I had to let it go. No one ever owned up to it and to this day I have no idea who or why they did it. It was NOT funny to me...

Sunny Sunday

Today was a good day.

Early this morning I went for a fairly long bicycle ride with no particular destination in mind.

I started off in a direction which I had not cycled before. I had been down that road many times in the past but not for years and it wasn't long before something caught my eye that I found interesting and worthy of a few photos!

This first stop was the Willesden Lane Cemetery, (Paddington Cemetery) It was cool and peaceful and full of wonderfully old tombstones, mausoleums and vaults. I spent quite a long time in there just enjoying the quiet and the sunshine.

The next stop was the Willesden Hindu temple:

And then I came across, in the same road a Buddist Temple which I don't think was there the last time I was in the area...

IMG_2051

So all in all it was quite a "religious" Sunday morning.

I spent the afternoon relaxing at home then had a lovely spicy chicken dinner this evening in Nandos!!

I'm not sure if I mentioned it before but I am off work for the rest of this week.. whooooooo hoooooooo!!! So I'm trying to make the most of every single day as (fingers crossed) it looks like the weather is going to be good, sunny and dry.

I have plans for everyday, some more interesting than others and I will blog about them as and when....

A Gift From Greece

Greek Pussy, originally uploaded by LadyBanana.

My youngest daughter bought me this little gift from Zante. It's a cat head fridge magnet. Rather strange but it's very similar colourings to my real visiting cat.

I showed it to the visiting cat, and she wanted to bite it.. I wonder what she was thinking!

The Comings And Goings

The last couple of days have been rather hectic in a motherly sort of way. It hasn't been me exactly that's been running around but me who has been affected by everyone around me.

My youngest daughter went for 2 weeks holiday in Zante, Greece and came back yesterday, with her friend who was not feeling too well at all. A good meal soon sorted that though, I was amazed at the power my food had on this young lady, was quite remarkable, in minutes she had lit up like a light, was lovely. I think the reason for this "unwellness" was probably a 2 week diet of chips and alcohol!

So tonight, well tomorrow morning really, my older daughter is off on her travels for a week in Mykonos, Greece. Now this holiday has been booked all very last minute so she is currently packing... Now that stresses me a bit as I'm not really quite that spontaneous. I like to book several weeks in advance, make lists, plan and worry, worry and plan before I go away.

My son, who lives in Dubai, spent last weekend in Bombay (Mumbai) and has since spent the rest of the week in the toilet with a kind of Bombay Belly.. I didn't find this out until this morning. He said he hadn't let me know as I would worry! But at least he seems to be on the mend now, which is good news.

Worry? Me? Hmmmmmm....

Where The Cyclists Have The Right Of Way

Why can't cyclists have as much respect here in London? In Copenhagen they have more rights than motorists and look at those wonderfully wide bike lanes!!

Just watch the video (the 1st 30 secs are boring but don't give up)

Wanted - A Perfect January Holiday!

I have spent just about all evening scouring holiday websites looking for somewhere to go next January. It's my 21st birthday (again..hehehe) and I think I deserve to go somewhere nice.

There is a chance I may be going to Dubai, as my son is still out there working and of course I would love not only to visit him but to see where he hangs out, get a taste of what his life out there is really like...

But things being as they are (it's a long story) I may not be able to get there, so that's the reason I've been trying to find that perfect place. Somewhere that won't cost the earth, somewhere that's warm, (not necessarily baking hot) with a beautiful beach and is quiet but not so quiet it's dead!

Oh and not a place where there is likely to be a hurricane or the monsoon season...

The more I look the more undecided I am becoming and that's not good. I am the worst at making decisions at the best of times.

So, it could be Goa, the Caribbean, the Canaries, Egypt, or, or or, just about anywhere...

Any recommendation's for that time of year?

Riding In The Rain With Glasses

I found out today that cycling in glasses in the rain is not much fun.

I went for a short ride around the block as part of my determined effort to keep up my exercise and it began to rain, again.

It wasn't long before my glasses were completely covered in raindrops and my visibility was very poor.. so, apart from stopping every few minutes to wipe them off what do I do?

Nothing I suppose until someone invents windscreen wipers (which do not smear) for glasses!

Sharing My Birthday - 8th January

I was just browsing the blogs when I came across this idea, to list events and people who share my birthday. It was actually a meme on This Is A Miracle. I was not tagged but I just liked the idea, particularly to find those who share my birthday, so I did a search in Wikipedia and was surprised to see such a long list of events, births, deaths and holidays (well not many holidays..lol)

Most of the people born on my birthday, January 8th, I have never heard of, but here's the few I do know of...

William Hartnell

Elvis Presley

Shirley Bassey

Stephen Hawking

David Bowie

I Like To Ride My Bicycle

I've had my bike for a few weeks now and still enjoy getting out there for a ride. I'm not able to do so as often as I'd like due to work, weather and just being to darn tired sometimes.

This morning was bright and breezy and the perfect opportunity for a good exercising ride, so that's what I did. When I got home I took some photos of the bike, if you would like to see them all just click the pic!

This afternoon I went to Brent Cross shopping centre and bought a fluorescent jacket as the nights are already starting to get dim much earlier and I want to give myself every chance to get out, be safe and be seen...

Maybe when I feel brave enough I will post a pic of myself wearing it... now that should be funny!

I Don't Know Why But..

I joined yet another one of those communication sites, a bit like Twitter, Jaiku and Pownce I have now joined Yappd

Don't know anyone else who is on it yet, have to see how it goes. Not sure I even want to be on it but me being me I have to give everything or should I say most things a try!

I am getting a bit fed up with Facebook right now, seem to be being drowned in so many silly requests from vampires, zombies and so on.... maybe I'll give that one up soon, or just not respond..

As I said before sometimes it all seems to get too much for me, takes up too much time and for what.. absolutely nothing...

Spreading Myself Around

Just submitted this blog to BlogDire, a new (I think) directory/search engine. (Currently waiting for approval I think)

It's rather plain and empty looking but I think it's good to spread the word as much as possible. Not that I'm looking for attention or anything! LOL

I have in the past submitted to several other similar services, but I have no idea if they generate more readers or not...

Get Enough Paid Leave?

I read this article on BBC news today about the amount of paid leave workers in different European countries are entitled to, and guess what, UK came lowest.

The article also notes that Canada and Japan are guaranteed only 10 days holiday and USA doesn't even have any legislation!

I myself get 25 days plus the 8 bank holidays, so I can't actually complain!

So, my dear readers in USA (or anywhere else) what entitlement to paid leave do you have each year??

I Bet Yours Is Not This Big!!!

Sunday Well Spent

Today I am rather pleased with myself...

I got up early before 8am and got started on sorting out some rather over cluttered corners of my flat that I had been promising to do for months now.

I chucked out a very large rubbish bag of things I no longer need and I got rid of a large table and six chairs. This table was only used for it's purpose maybe once or twice a year. The rest of the year it gets used as a dumping ground for anything and everything everybody brings into the flat.

So now my flat looks a lot more spacious, a lot tidier and cleaner. I like it!

Didn't have time to get out for a cycle ride but hopefully it won't rain tomorrow and I can make up for it then.

Whose Job?

This is the story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody.

There was an important job to be done and Everybody thought that Somebody would do it.

Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.

Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.

Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.

It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done!

~~~~~~~~~~
Not come across that one before but I think it's brilliant, it happens in my house all the time!
It's probably quite well known but as it was new to me I thought it would be nice to add it here.. I found it on a tea towel at National Eczema Society's Gift Pages
Two of my children have in the past suffered from several years of severe eczema and at one time I did some voluntary work with this charity. It's a very devastating condition and a worthy cause to support for their efforts in finding not only a cure but relief from the dreadful symptoms.
Liking New Style Flickr Uploadr
I'm really liking the new style Flickr uploadr...
It's easy and fast to use, you can add as many photos as you wish to each upload batch, it gives you a progress bar not only of the entire batch but of each individual photo. It gives you lots of options before uploading and when they are done it gives the opportunity to tag, title, describe and add them to sets...
If you upload to Flickr then it's definitely worth a try!
I'm Not One But Two Disney Princesses
If I am part Belle and part Pocahontas does that make me schizophrenic?
Which Disney Princess Are You?
You are part Belle. You are strong, deep, and you are not a slave to petty superficial things. You are independent and allow yourself to see inner beauty without sacrificing your values. You are almost too good of a person.
You are part Pocahontas. You defy convention and sometimes do what is considered taboo. Unfortunately, others do not always appreciate your differences, so it's good that you are so strong-willed. You are loyal and you believe in fate. Your true love will find you one day.
Dare I Try To Look Good Naked?
Just watched the TV programme "How To Look Good Naked"
This show helps women who are feeling less than confident about their bodies (the vast majority of the female population maybe) to gain that confidence by wearing the right clothes, makes up, getting a fresh new hairstyle etc etc..
When this has been achieved then the woman has a set of photos taken, posing naked, well, with cleverly draped fabrics so it's not too over exposing.
Well the point of this post is that I'd love to go on that show. It would be amazing to be shown how to make the very best of my body and to be confident enough to pose naked in front of millions.
BUT and it is a BIG BUT, I don't think I'd even have the confidence to go on the show in the first place.
Channel 4 are now looking for new people to take part (including men now as well) so have a look at the application page while I sit and decide if I have the guts to apply myself!
Watch Out Zante, Here They Come
My youngest daughter and her friend have today left for the beautiful Greek Island of Zante. They are meeting 2 other friends there to make up a dangerous foursome!
They will, I'm sure have a wonderful time for the next 2 weeks but being a Mum I just hope they take care of themselves, don't get too drunk, eat properly and don't get taken in by too many boys declaring love in order for a quick holiday grope, or worse.
But they are madly excited by what lays ahead of them in the next 14 days!
At least these days we have the wonders of mobile phones/texting so they have not just disappeared entirely for the 2 weeks as I used to do as a teenager.. makes me think how on earth our parents must have worried about us!! Or was the world just a less dangerous place so they didn't have to worry as much?
How Many Cats Are Too Many Cats?
I do love cats, but I don't have one of my own at the moment for many reasons. However my neighbours cat is a frequent visitor and she semi makes up for it, for now..
But can you imagine having this many kitties in your home???
I Can Never Remember The Flickring Rules
By now I'm sure most people know I love taking photos and displaying them on Flickr in a wide selection of groups.
However I have now joined so many of these groups for almost every conceivable category of photograph that I find it hard to remember the rules when adding pix!
Some have posting limits, tagging requests, invite only adds, commenting rules, award this or that to a set number of photos for every one you add.. etc etc.. so you can imagine how confusing it gets to "spread yourself around" without breaking the rules.
I like using Steeev's Multi Group Sender so it's very easy to send, send, send to so many groups without thinking about rules. So sometimes I get banned from groups, or photos removed because I have quite innocently forgotten the rules..
Just wonder how do others manage to do the right thing here??
Cycling On A Sunny Afternoon
Went for a lovely bike ride this afternoon. Rode along the canal-side to Camden Town, then to Primrose Hill and Regents Park.
It amazes me how the road is one minute up hill, the next down, and these are roads that I have walked along for years. It's just not noticeable on foot. So it's very good exercise, just what I need!
I've now got a gel seat cover which has really helped make the ride a lot more comfortable. My "under carriage" is nowhere near as sore as it was last weekend!
Oh and of course I took a few photos along the way, if you'd like to see them please go to my FLICKR
Fancy A Traffic Free Bike Ride In London?
I've just signed up for the Hovis London Freewheel.
On Sunday 23rd September many of London's streets will be completely traffic free to enable cyclists to have a fun ride around the capital.
Just hope the weather will be good for it!
So London cyclists, take a look, sign up and see you there!!
Not A Lot
Had a busy couple of days at work but then that's quite usual lately as I have been without my co-worker for 3 months now! So really I am almost doing 2 peoples jobs. So not surprising I am frequently quite tired.
Last night I was still just about able to go out for a little bicycle exercise, but tonight I couldn't go due to a combination of tiredness and it seemed to get dark rather early and I don't get have lights on the bike.
Not much else has been happening here. It has at last stopped raining and today was beautifully warm and sunny, not that I saw much of it as I work in a dull windowless room. However the forecast is that it will last for the weekend, so that's something to look forward to!
Anyway enough of this rambling, must go and catch up with my reading in Google Reader!
