All Female Big Brother

Just watched the introduction of the new Big Brother "inmates" on TV.

Years ago when the show began I was addicted but over time I have become completely bored with it all.

All I want to see is the new house and the people.. I don't imagine I'll be watching the show very much.. But the unusual thing is that ALL the contestants are FEMALE. The youngest are 18 year old twins and the oldest a 60 year old retired teacher.. Hmmm maybe worth a peek. Just heard there will be one male joining them on Friday evening, so there you go, I guess I'll just have to watch it again on Friday to see him!

What Makes English Difficult To Learn

Reasons why the English language is so hard to learn:

1. The bandage was wound around the wound.
2. The farm was used to produce produce.
3. The dump was so full that it had to refuse more refuse.
4. We must polish the Polish furniture.
5. He could lead if he would get the lead out.
6. The soldier decided to desert his dessert in the desert.
7. Since there is no time like the present, he thought it was time to present the present.
8. A bass was painted on the head of the bass drum.
9. When shot at, the dove dove into the bushes.
10. I did not object to the object.
11. The insurance was invalid for the invalid.
12. There was a row among the oarsmen about how to row.
13. They were too close to the door to close it.
14. The buck does funny things when the does are present.
15. A seamstress and a sewer fell down into a sewer line.
16. To help with planting, the farmer taught his sow to sow.
17. The wind was too strong to wind the sail.
18. After a number of injections my jaw got number.
19. Upon seeing the tear in the painting I shed a tear.
20. I had to subject the subject to a series of tests.
21. How can I intimate this to my most intimate friend?

There is no egg in eggplant, nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple. English muffins weren’t invented in England or French fries in France (surprise!).

Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren’t sweet, are meat. Quicksand works slowly, boxing rings are square, and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.

And why is it that writers write, but fingers don’t fing, grocers don’t groce and hammers don’t ham?

If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn’t the plural of booth beeth? One goose two geese, so one moose, two meese? Doesn’t it seem crazy, that you can make amends but not one amend. If you have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it? Is it an odd, or an end?

If teachers taught, why didn’t preachers praught? If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat? In what language do people recite at a play and play at a recital? Ship by truck and send cargo by ship?

Have noses that run and feet that smell? How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites? You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language in which your house can burn up as it burns down, in which you fill in a form by filling it out, and in which, an alarm goes off by going on.

Discover The Picture Game

Yep! - It is me... hehehe

Rain Rain Go Away..

Yesterday we were lucky as we went to a family barbecue and it didn't begin to rain until after the cooking was all done, but today it's rained just about all day long. It's such a shame at it's the Bank Holiday Weekend, a weekend where it's expected (hoped) there will be good weather and there are usually lots of outdoor events organised. But sadly not this one, it's a total wash out.

I managed to take a few photos yesterday, this one being on of my favourite! This dog is so small, old and incredibly easily annoyed. Not one I'd even dare to pet! But it makes me laugh when I see him like this as long as he's safely and securely away from me with his owner as he is in the photo!

Hoping For Relief

Over the years I have suffered from severe headaches, which I knew myself to be migraine. Sometimes I get the aura (twinkling lights at the side of my vision) but more often its just severe pain with nausea which wipes me out for about 3 days, and then another day or so to feel fully normal again. A lot of the time I have been able to manage with over the counter medication but recently they seem to have become resistant to all that I try, so I thought time to visit the Dr.

He was OK, asked about a million questions and gave me some prescription only medicine called Zomig
which I hope will help as it's becoming quite disabling!

Anyone have experience of these type of medicines, also known as triptans, if so I'd love to hear your story!

Cooliris Gets Even Cooler

When I opened Firefox this morning I was prompted to update Cooliris.

Cooliris is brilliant, I have been using it for quite a while now. It saves you clicking links by giving you a preview of what's ahead.. and if you like it then you can lock the preview and view it fully. There are lots of useful features which instead of me giving a bumbling description it's easier if you watch the video!

Tuesday Titbits

Today has been fairly uneventful, well at least after having a freezing cold shower for the 5th day running! The hot water has broken down and is taking forever to fix, we are now waiting on a spare part to be delivered which could take a few days, I'm just praying it's sorted by the long weekend ahead! (Bank Holiday)

At work I was so not in the mood for it, just did NOT want to be there, but this passed off a little as I was told by one of the patients that they liked talking to me, felt at ease with me more than others. It's nice to feel appreciated!

At the moment I'm listening to my vast collection of music on random, which is great as I never know what's going to come up next. I don't even recognise some of it there's so much now! You may have noticed I use LastFM and you can have a peek at what I listen to in the widget in the left sidebar and if you click there it will take you to my LastFm profile page which has a much longer list of recently played tracks! Quite interesting to look at others tastes in music sometimes! Also if you were that interested in what I was listening to you can pop the widget out of the page and view it in its own little page!

The next few days here in London are looking good weatherwise with temps up to 26c (78f) pity I'll be spending most of it in a windowless room... Just checked the temp in Dubai where my son is now living and its a shocking 44c (111f) - not sure how I will manage in that weather if I ever get out there!

Talking about my son, he rang me a few days ago from Dubai. He has now found a villa to rent but the rent is ridiculous. They wanted the entire years payments upfront, which is a staggering £10,000! He has had to get a loan for it.. Rather funny is one of the points in the smallprint - no indecent acts to take place in the villa, penalty is eviction - which interprets as no unmarried sex! I'm sure he's looking forward to moving in now! Well I am anyway because as soon as he's settled I can buy my ticket!

Here We Go Again

Last week it was headaches, the week before a kind of cold and now I start the week with an overwhelming tiredness and a feeling of being "not right"

I have an appointment with my GP on Friday as I can't go on feeling like this. I have managed to struggle into work each day but it's not easy especially as a great deal of my job is dealing with the public. Maybe a bit easier if I was just slumped behind a desk.

I'm not only tired but feel heavy, lazy and can't be bothered any more. Just wish I had some time off (but only had 4 days off a couple of weeks ago) I'd like to go somewhere beautiful, quiet and really learn how to relax as I feel I don't know how to relax, not even when sleeping.

So tonight I am just spending a little time reading my regular blogs then off to bed.. in preparation to be up at 6.30am to do it all again.. I need rescuing! HELP!!!!

Reconnect With Your Kids!

The start of this video made me think of my son who is in Dubai.. I don't get to talk to him very often, but I think a MaternaCord is going a little too far!

Made me laugh though!

Another Day In Brighton

I spent the day in at the seaside today.

In Brighton actually, to visit my daughter who is at uni there. I didn't see a great deal of the beach or sea as it was windy and a rather chilly and we had things to do.

However I took a few photos and if you would like to see more of them they are here on Flickr!

I'm Back..

Last night I spent no more than 5 minutes online as I felt so rough with severe headache, I went to bed about 8:45. Did me good though as I'm back tonight and feeling fine!

Today reading some of my fave blogs I came across this on Cyber Chocolate

Couldn't resist having a play!

How Do You Like Your Banana??

How ripe do you prefer your banana? I definitely prefer mine at number 4 or 5, still firm but not too hard!

January Is My Month

Your Birth Month is January

You are a natural leader who is able to stand up when no one else can.
Strong and powerful, you tend to overshadow those around you.

Your soul reflects: deep love, fascination with life, and a distinctive persona

Your gemstone: Garnet

Your flower: Snowdrop

Your colors: Black, dark red, and dark blue

Me - Strong and powerful?? Hmmmmm.. Maybe! lol

Found this on Beth Ann Allens Blog!

What A lazy Day I've Had

Today I have been excessively lazy.. maybe because I know I have to go back to work after 9 days off, I just feel it's my last chance to be slothlike for a long time!
Also I have heard through the grapevine one of my colleagues has gone off on 2 weeks sick leave, then will be off on holiday for 2 weeks.. so I'll be working double hard for at least the next month! Oh dear...

So today I spent a lot of time browsing photos on Flickr, looking for pix of places where I grew up, loved as a child or lived in - a kind of journey down memory lane, which has been rather nice.

I have been listening to my music, which I don't get much time to do during a working week, so that's also been nice... I have about 8000 tracks in iTunes and I certainly do not know them all at all, but as they are all artists I like or related genre to artists I already like there isn't too much I dislike on there... Yep, I used to be an avid downloader from torrent sites, downloading in particular, albums I already have but on vinyl and then one thing led to another that I built up quite a vast collection. I rarely download now though as I have plenty to be going on with and I don't particularly like the newer stuff that's around.

So must get to bed at a sensible time tonight as it will be all systems go from tomorrow!

Funny Supermarket Phone Prank

I was sent this several months ago and just came across it again hiding away in a folder and decided to share it!

It's quite funny - maybe more to Brits - I'm not sure, tell me what you think!

LastFM Has New Widgets

If you're a music lover you may well be using LastFM
already as I am.

I have had a "Recently Listened To" widget in the left sidebar for quite some time. Now LastFM have updated the widgets with nice new flashy ones which update a lot faster, show when someone is actually listening to music and when it will next update, if you put the mouse cursor over the widget it brings up a small pic of the artist for each track and if there is a small red arrow next to the track you can listen to a snippet of that particular track!!

So take a new look in the left sidebar, see/hear what I've been listening to this evening.

Typical Bad Luck

This week Monday was a Bank Holiday here in England, so I decided to take the following 4 days off work as I have had no holiday yet this year! As the time approached the weather was fantastic, sunny and very warm, so I was feeling happy that my time off was coming up.

A couple of days before, I notice the forecast says rain, but being hopeful I didn't worry too much. But I was wrong, it has done nothing but rain, especially today it has been awful grey damp and miserable all day!

Then to top it all I stated a sore throat at the start of the week which has now developed into a nasty cold - the first I have had in ages, certainly the first this year anyway!

I don't think holidays from work are a good idea.. unless maybe I'm going away somewhere warmer and nicer.

A New Way Of Making Fun Pix

cameroid, originally uploaded by LadyBanana.

Cameroid is brilliant..

Rather like the PhotoBooth on a mac.. You can create images from your webcam via the browser (no downloading or installing anything)

As you can see from the image here there are colour effect options but also there are morphing effects and more..

Click the pic to have a go!

More freaky pix of me HERE

UPDATE: I have created a Flickr Group for anyone wishing to post pictures made with Cameroid!

The Zoo Pics

I have now uploaded some of my zoo pics to Flickr.

It was rather difficult to get good shots as most of the animals are behind either glass, mesh or bars and of course they keep moving, and so often are clever enough to see the camera and turn their backs!

I Fancy Dressing Up!

I'm a fairly quiet shy person but sometimes I get the feeling I would like to do something mad - like dress up in a crazy costume and go out. Not to a party where everyone would be dressed up, but out shopping, to the bank, maybe even to work - (maybe not work!lol) but to anywhere where it would cause a bit of a stir.

But I know I'd never have the guts to do it and besides I'd probably get carted off to the nearest nut house - pity we don't feel free to be more kidish sometimes..

A few examples of possible outfits!

A Day At The Zoo

Today I spent at London Zoo

It was a brilliant day out and I took loads of photos which I am in the process of sorting out.

I'm now totally exhausted as it's a pretty big zoo and lots to see, in fact we didn't leave until closing time as we were trying desperately to see everything!

Anyway, I hope to have the photos up tomorrow.. And a video of wild hunting dogs!

But for now I am off to dreamland to dream about being chased by gorillas - maybe!!

Joined Blogcatalog and Bumpzee

Today I joined a couple of networking sites which are similar to MyBlogLog.

The most active one so far is Blogcatalog

It seems very easy to use (I hate it when it takes ages to find what and where things are/do) and I've had plenty of response from other members already!

The other site I joined is Bumpzee it has again similar features but as of yet not so much response but as you may notice people have been visiting from both as they show up in the widgets - left sidebar - which is nice!

If you're a member of either please feel free to add me :)

Now This Would Be Fun!

I'd love to have one of these... It would be ideal for my journey back and forth to work as it's such a boring walk at the moment I think this would just do the job!

But it's probably not available in UK - yet!

Click the pic for more info..

Actually to top it off maybe I should be wearing a SuperGirl outfit as I speed along!

Does anyone actually still want an invite to Joost?

Infinite Scrolling For Flickr

Do you ever feel it's such a bother having to click "next" all the time when browsing a photostream in Flickr? Well I do, or rather I did until I discovered this Flickr Auto Pagination

It's brilliant in that it loads the next page as you come towards the end of a page so you never have to click and wait. It definitely makes browsing photos a lot more pleasurable and I must admit that sometimes in the past I would give up viewing as I got bored with clicking all the time.

To use it you need to be using Firefox and have Greasemonkey installed first!

The Miracle Cream?

I did not see it, but several weeks ago on BBC television there was a programme testing out wrinkle creams and apparently they found one that works!

This cream then sold out within days and women are now queuing to try to get their hands on some since it has come back into stock. Of course I'd love to try it but I would not dream of standing in a line waiting for the shop to open to get it, I do not believe it can be that good!

However I will keep my eyes and ears open as to when it may be more easily available and then maybe give it a try...

If I do get some I'll let you know if I am transformed back to the young beauty I used to be.. LOL

Click the cream for more.

Now, 9 Days Of Freedom!

The last couple of weeks have been rather busy for me at work. I think it felt even busier as I was getting more desperate for my days off!

This Monday is a Bank Holiday so I have taken the following 4 days off, which gives me 9 days for the price of 4! Yipeee!

My youngest daughter will be back home from Brighton for the long weekend which is nice.

Just hope the weather won't be too bad, sadly the outlook is not as good as it's been the past few weeks - just my luck.
