Trying To Keep Out The Spam

Regrettably I have just had to turn on the word verification for comments as I am getting all kinds of spam appearing.

I hate having to copy those letters when I comment on others blogs, and I'm sure you do too, but I don't want to have to keep deleting spam all the time, so for now, sorry it's - copy the letters.

Hope this will keep them out..

But not you!!

8 COMMENTS, SO FAR, ADD YOURS :):

We had the same problem at the climate change site I maintain. We were getting dozens of spam comments every day. Adding word verification stopped it completely. So, yes it's annoying but unfortunately necessary.

I always moderate comments on my blogs and things. I don't usually disallow anything unless it's asking for it.

It's a tough one, so far I haven't had too many but it does come in phases. I don't blame you turning it back on if it's getting out of control.

I don't mind the letters too much - except sometimes I have troubles reading them. I am so lame! What bothers me is the way this pop-up box cuts off the right side, and there's nothing I can do about it. Does anybody know why it does that now?

I don't find a prob with the pop up box now, but I used to.. I don't know why either.. Are you using IE or FF?

So far I've been lucky with my blog. Unfortunately, on my YouTube videos I now am the proud recipient of offers to play blackjack and poker at sites, find my true mate, and get wonderful photos of girls in various positions. Though I am grateful there are so many people in the world thinking of my welfare, I wish they wouldn't be so generous with their offers!

I hate word verification, can not read the letters most of the time. I find you don't need them if you turn on comment moderation and have an email sent to you when someone comments. I just go in and aye or nay each one. They wait in limbo till I accept them. No comment spam as in zero comment spam. When I had the word verification some did slip through cause anyone leaving comment spam can type in word verification. It only works against bots, not individuals.

Laura, yes that is another option I may try. But sometimes (although rarely) I don't get on the poota for a day or few...
