Laughing At The Swingers
Do you ever notice how an ordinary word or action can suddenly seem so bizzare or odd? (Or is it just me...)
An everyday simple word or a name, if said over and over can sound strangely odd after a while.
But for me today it wasn't a word, it was the everyday action of people swinging their arms that began to look funny to me as I was walking home from work this evening. Particularly the ladies carrying a handbag or a carrier bag of shopping seemed to swing the empty arm with great gusto and the more I watched this the more bizarre it became to me that it was all I could do to stop myself laughing out loud. At first I noticed 2 ladies "swinging" with great force, then this drew my attention to other people and most of them were doing it.. Somehow it began to look almost alien to me (although I was probably doing it myself) these people swinging so forcefully these arms that appeared to have a life of their own!
Anyway, I'm sure you must think I'm a bit weird but next time you're out in the street take a look at the swinging arms and maybe you'll think of what I said...

The closest example I have was of a cold winter's eve on Surbiton station... everyone obviously listening to iPods doing their own little dance and steps around the platform to keep warm.
I once wrote about thatt notion myself. I believe you can see the hidden music in a city by observing the metronomic action of everyone's arms.
Trouble is, walkman's and ipods are over-riding that natural impulse.
